In a major turn in the Sidhu Moosewala murder trial, Angrez Singh—the first investigating officer (IO) in the case—passed away late Friday night after a prolonged illness. Singh, who was the SHO of Mansa Sadar police station when Moosewala was gunned down in May 2022, was one of the case’s key witnesses and among the first responders at the crime scene.
Angrez Singh’s Absence Likely to Delay Proceedings
Singh was expected to appear in court on July 4, but had already missed a scheduled testimony on May 23 due to medical complications. His death comes at a critical moment in the trial and is likely to further delay proceedings in what has become one of Punjab’s most high-profile murder cases.
At the last hearing, Singh was listed alongside Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, and police official Sukhpal Singh as the primary witnesses. With Singh’s passing, the court will now have to officially acknowledge his absence and revise the witness list.
Trial Continues Amid Setbacks
Despite several adjournments over the months, progress has been made. Earlier in the case, eyewitnesses Gurpreet Singh and Gurvinder Singh provided key testimony, identifying the shooters, the weapons used, and the vehicles involved in Moosewala’s murder. Their statements have been vital in linking the suspects to the crime.
Balkaur Singh, the late singer’s father, remains scheduled to testify on July 4. His appearance in court is expected to carry significant emotional and legal weight.
Nation Still Awaits Justice
Sidhu Moosewala, a beloved Punjabi singer and rising political figure, was brutally shot on May 29, 2022, in Mansa district—sending shockwaves across the country and sparking widespread calls for justice. With the loss of a key witness like Angrez Singh, the road to justice faces another obstacle, but the case remains firmly in the public eye.
