A fresh political showdown has erupted in Punjab’s Gidderbaha town as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon accused the local Congress-led Municipal Council of halting development projects due to political vendetta. His claims triggered a sharp rebuttal from Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, reigniting the AAP vs Congress face-off in the region.
Dimpy Dhillon: “Political Grudges Are Hurting Public Welfare”
Addressing media on Thursday, Dimpy Dhillon claimed that key development projects have been at a standstill for the past six months because the Municipal Council (MC), led by Congress, is acting on political instructions.
“I personally met the MC president and urged him not to let politics come in the way of progress. I even offered to let him take full credit for the foundation stones. But he clearly told me that he would only act on Raja Warring’s orders,” Dimpy alleged. “Had the MC cooperated, the streets would’ve been built by now. I’m now exploring alternative routes to get the work done.”
Raja Warring Fires Back: “No Excuses, AAP Has the Power”
Responding the next day via a Facebook Live, Congress leader and former Gidderbaha MLA Raja Warring refuted the charges. “AAP leaders are always full of excuses. They talk about 12 years versus 2.5 years of governance – but who’s in power now? The Chief Minister is from their party, the government is theirs. Why aren’t the works happening?” Warring asked.
He emphasized that development works under the Municipal Council must go through formal resolutions, requiring consensus among MC members and the president. “Skipping this process isn’t just wrong – it’s illegal,” he added.
“What Happened to Promised Projects?”
Warring didn’t stop there. He questioned the current government’s delivery on earlier promises. “Where’s the Malwa canal project? What happened to the 15-day sewerage repair promise? Post-bypoll, only ₹70 lakh has been sanctioned for Gidderbaha. The CM should fulfill his promises, release the necessary funds, and work in partnership with local bodies,” he said.
Political Heat Rises in Gidderbaha
This political spat comes at a time when Gidderbaha residents are already frustrated over delays in civic works. With both sides pointing fingers, the real concern remains: will development ever rise above party lines?
