In a powerful demonstration of accessible and efficient justice, Punjab’s latest Lok Adalat saw an extraordinary 4.81 lakh cases settled in just a single day, with settlement amounts crossing ₹617 crore. Held across the state’s courts on Saturday, the event offered a lifeline to thousands seeking resolution outside the conventional legal gridlock.
From Legal Wrangles to Relief
At Ropar District Court, a man stepped out clutching a crumpled document—a peaceful end to a years-long loan dispute. His relief, though quiet, symbolized the broader impact of this massive legal initiative, which helped citizens avoid prolonged court battles.
Across Punjab, 5.50 lakh cases were taken up, and 442 benches were constituted to handle the surge. The event marked a sharp jump from the previous Lok Adalat held in March, which settled 3.66 lakh cases.
Justice with Compassion, Not Conflict
Under the leadership of Justice Surya Kant, Supreme Court Judge and new Executive Chairman of NALSA; Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court; and Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairman of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, the event reflected a renewed push toward participatory and non-adversarial justice.
Justice Sibal emphasized the significance:
“The Lok Adalats are testament to the idea that justice should not be delayed or adversarial. It is heartening to see the people of Punjab embrace this collaborative mode of justice delivery.”
Collaborative Triumph
The success was made possible through the joint efforts of banks, insurance companies, government departments, judicial officers, bar members, police, and the civil administration.
The Punjab State Legal Services Authority extended its gratitude to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and all stakeholders for contributing to one of the most impactful Lok Adalats in recent memory.
