In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the Punjab Police have arrested four individuals in three separate cases and recovered a total of 1.192 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
In the first case, the Lopoke police apprehended Gurdeep Singh, alias Kali, a resident of Rajetal border village in Gharinda, and seized 500 grams of heroin from him. According to Sub-Inspector Sukhwinderjit, the arrest was made based on a tip-off that Gurdeep was planning to transport a drug consignment to Chak Ala Singh village via the defence drain through Bachiwind village. His motorcycle, bearing registration number PB-02-EJ-5172, was also confiscated during the operation. The seizure was made in the presence of DSP Inderjit Singh. Gurdeep is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the heroin.
In a separate operation, the Gharinda police arrested Amritpal Singh from Atalgarh village and recovered 430 grams of heroin from him. The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation. Preliminary findings suggest that Amritpal was involved in cross-border smuggling of heroin from Pakistan using drones. He was intercepted by a police patrol while waiting to receive a consignment.
In the third incident, the city police arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized 262 grams of heroin. The accused have been identified as Sunny Singh, alias Lifafa, of Maqboopura and Deepak Kumar from New Jawahar Nagar. Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) Dr Sheetal Singh stated that Sunny was apprehended by Maqboopura police in the Vallah area. During interrogation, Sunny revealed that he had procured the narcotics from Deepak Kumar, who was subsequently arrested.
All four accused are currently in police remand. The police are conducting further investigations to trace the supply chain and dismantle the wider network of drug trafficking. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered at the respective police stations.
